1995 Hands-On Science With Robot Hands

In this unit students learn to progam a robot arm to do a simple tasks. This introduces students to the technological world of computers and robots. They use a robot arm/hand that is similar to industrial robots now in use. Students learn computer programming and basic principles of robotics in an interesting, yet practical format. The robotic arm/hand directly interfaces with an Apple IIe computer. Students use the keyboard to program the arm/hand to move forward, backward, rotate clockwise and counterclockwise, and to open and close the hand. By programming the arm/hand to carry out a series of motions for a specific amount of time, students can use the arm to stack objects, open a jar, blow bubbles, or even stir a liquid.
