_______ Problem/Hypothesis (20 points possible)
4. Student showed responsibility by copying all problems and tried to answer them each day. They consistently used their class time wisely to work on the required questions. You can see insight, creativity, and a deeper level of critical thinking in their answers.
3. These hypothesis/problems showed good effort and most were there.
2. These hypothesis/problems were not consistent and showed some lack of effort. Some may be missing altogether.
1. Hypothesis/problems were missing and may be incomplete. Answers showed lack of creative thinking, effort, and insight. There were inaccuracies and some things missing. Some questions or parts of questions might have been left unanswered. A sincere effort and lack of good use of class time is evidenced by the quality and consistency of the hypothesis/problems. The problem may not have been written down and just the answer was recorded. (0-10)
_______ Data (total points possible 30)
4. This student had all the data required for each day (sunspot, UV, temperature) and the pictures or definitions, notes, one the whiteboard or overhead. Extra touches such as coloring, labeling, or detail made this student's work stand out. Their pictures were clear and showed excellent observation skills. Their data section was accurate and showed outstanding effort and pride. If you were absent copying this student's data would be like you were actually their.
3. This student had most of the data and did a good job taking down important information. While they showed a good effort, there might be some pieces of information missing occasionally. While they had most details, some might be lacking.
2. This student did the least amount of work to get by. They showed some effort but have many inconsistencies and might have required data sections missing or important details were lost. Some but not all that much effort is shown. They seem to be just going through the motions.
1. This student did not show consistent effort at all. The data is hit or miss and they are missing big chunks that would indicate they are not participating as required and not using class time wisely. With things missing, and many inaccuracies in what was taken down, it would be difficult to study for a test or quiz on the concepts studied.
_______ Reflections and Summaries: (30 points possible)
4. This student consistently had all reflections and summaries. Their reflections showed insight, creativity, and a deeper level of critical thinking. Their summaries let you get a real feel for what we did each day. Their reflections and summaries showed this person understood the concepts we were studying. Summaries and reflections related what we are doing to examples outside of class. This student can communicate their ideas clearly. The effort and pride they took in doing their best is obvious. Their summaries and reflections would be outstanding examples for other to use. (27-30 points)
3. The reflections and summaries were good. This student consistently took time to do the reflections and summaries almost every day. Very few if any reflections or summaries were missing. Some reflections/summaries showed good effort and thought. (21-26 points)
2. Most reflections and summaries were there, but they showed minimal effort care and thought. The reflections and summaries were inconsistent. Some may have been missing. It looks liked this person was just going through the motions. The reflections and summaries may have been filled in later just to get some credit. Little insight was shown and examples showed some flaws in the understanding of concepts. (10-20 points)
1. This student is missing many summaries and reflections. Their reflections and summaries are hit or miss and they are missing big chunks that would indicate they are not participating as required and not using class time wisely. The reflections and summaries did not show effort, thought, and insight. Some summaries and reflections seem if they were written days after the fact, so it was hard for the student to make connections to what we actually did in class that day. The student did not communicate ideas and answers clearly. (0-9 points)
_______ Overall Neatness/Organization (20 points possible)
4. Student's journal is well organized and easy to read. Each section is easy to find. The student showed exceptional care and pride in being neat. This would be a great notebook to copy and use as an example for others. The day and date are recorded. (18-20 points)
3. This students journal showed good organization. Sections were pretty consistently labeled and the writing was readable. (14-18 points)
2. This student's work was not easy to read. The notebook was not well organized and had sections missing and or incomplete sections. (10-13 points)
1. This student's journal was very messy and difficult to read. They showed little effort to write clearly and sections were hard to find or missing altogether. Pages may have been out of order and a lack of pride in work is evident. Ideas could not be communicated because of difficulty in organization and clear writing.. (1-9 points)
