Welcome to Morrison Labs!

Through active learning, students at Morrison Labs will forge their own theories and explanations about density, chemical reactions, energy, motion, plate tectonics, weather, and how the earth, solar system, and universe have changed over time. Students work in cooperative groups to exchange, clarify, and investigate ideas that link their knowledge with new evidence they collect in experiments. Students learn how to collect data and then display the results with pictures and graphs. Students practice communicating their thoughts and ideas through numerous writing assignments. Technology is emphasized. Students use computer probes to collect data. Students use computers and laser disc technology to do research and to analyze real-life simulations. Problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork are all emphasized in several science challenges and contests throughout the year. Authentic assessment is accomplished using such means as application tasks, oral and written lab reports, and a daily lab journal. A list of activities planned for this year is below.
